Flyin Lunch at Indy Executive Airport (TYQ)
Saturday July 12, 2008
Volunteers please call Col. Carl Winkler in advance to help out.

Welcome

The Indiana Wing of the CAF, which operates the Fairchild PT-26 "Cornell", welcomes you to our web site.  The Wing evolved from original Indiana Squadron, which had its first meeting on Fathers' Day in 1979.  In 1981 the Wing produced in cooperation with HQ CAF its first air show at Columbus, IN, which was was very well attended and is still considered to have been the largest air show in Indiana's history.  This was followed up by a half a dozen shows that were organized and produced entirely by The Wing, at the Mt. Comfort Airport just east of Indianapolis.   See our Air Show 1983 for what the airport looked like that last weekend in June when the Wing hosted the Blue Angels and a large group of warbirds.

The Wing now concentrates on maintaining and flying its PT-26 "Cornell."  This aircraft came out of a 13 year restoration in late 1999 and has been seen at various air shows in Indiana and surrounding states starting in 2000.

CAF Objectives

  • To preserve, in flying condition, a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States during World War II.

  • To provide museum buildings for permanent protection and display of these aircraft as a tribute to the thousands of men and women who built, serviced, and flew them.

  • To perpetuate in the memory and hearts of all Americans the spirit in which these great planes were flown for the defense of our nation.

  • To establish an organization having the dedication, enthusiasm and esprit de corps necessary to operate, maintain and preserve these aircraft as symbols of our American military aviation heritage.

In November of 2003 the Indiana Wing moved its operation to Indianapolis Executive Airport  in Boone County, IN.
